The Collective: Vinyl on Vinyl

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

After indulging ourselves in comfort food, TK headed to The Collective as suggested by Robbie. Located in Malugay Street, Makati City near Cash and Carry, The Collective is a warehouse turned haven for budding niche businesses in the creative scene. Recently opened last May 2010, The Collective is a fairly new place for hang outs esp. for artsy people. We were lucky enough that day to come just in time for a graffiti exhibit in Vinyl on Vinyl.

Vinyl on Vinyl is a gallery, an art store and a designer toy store all-in-one that caters especially to Vinyl Art. The way I understand it, Vinyl Art is modern art inspired by the things we (or the artist) grew up with, expressed in unconventional ways. Like for example, budding and well known artists and designers alike express themselves by (but not limited to) designing toys that are produced in limited quantities. Most designer toys are numbered, so you would actually know how many of each kind there is in the entire world. Read the rest of this entry »

Cold Rock + Chewy Junior: Finding Comfort in Food

I believe most of us run to food for comfort whenever we feel depressed. Indulging one’s self in a huge tub of ice cream during times like this is a very typical scene in movies and TV series. I personally eat a lot whenever I flunk exams in school, so yeah, I am so fat na. College stress seems to the top reason why people my age gain so much unwanted weight. Food seems to be our number one buddy whenever the feeling of misery is looming ’round the corner. Science explains that such behavior might be caused by Serotonin and Dopamine, chemicals released in the brain with the help our bestfriend — sugar. Serotonin, in fact, is referred to as the “happiness hormone” while Dopamine’s function plays an important part in different things in the brain including mood. So now you know? ;)

L-R: Dam, Lou, Bryan, Will, Dani, Robbie

Last December, I was able to find new friends during our EK trip – Team Kaladkarin (TK). Apparently, one of us became depressed last week and asked the group for depression coping techniques. Of course almost everyone suggested eating your way out of depression and that’s where this uber fun spontaneous trip started. The group met up the following day for ice cream – Bryan, Will, Dam, Dani, Robbie, Lou and I. :) Read the rest of this entry »

Awesomest minutes of my life at Tree Top Adventure Subic!

Tree Top Adventure Subic

AWESOME!!!! That’s all I can say.

Subic’s Tree Top Adventure is uber awesome!! My time spent here is definitely the awesomest minutes of my life!!!

We spent day 1 at Zoobic Safari and before heading home the next day, it’s day 2 at Tree Top Adventure. My sister and I went for Package G which includes a ride in Superman, Silver Surfer and Interactive Freefall. All those 3 rides for 650 pesos. Too bad mom did not let us try the tree drop where you could rappel down a 60 foot tree Australian style!! (that means you fall down the tree with your head first!! ). I shall come back here someday and do the tree drop! MARK MY WORDS!! Bwahaha!!! It’s also sad that my sister and I were the only ones who get to enjoy the rides in Tree Top Adventure. The place kinda lacks extra safety measures just incase something goes wrong with their facilities, like nets to catch you etc. etc. So yeah, your life is depending on your harness! This is definitely a turn off to those who are very very concerned and OC with regards to safety. But if you are brave just like my sister and I, and you are into adventure, and you are able to trust the power of the harness, then go!! It’s definitely safe; I am still in one piece as I write.

Crocodiles jump at Zoobic!

IMG_3442

So as I have told you on my moon cake post, the entire family from my mom’s side spent an entire weekend at Subic to celebrate my grandma’s 90th birthday. :)

And our first stop, Zoobic Safari!

Yelly was really thrilled when she learned that we were going to a zoo and she was going to see some animals!

Upon arriving in Subic, we checked in at the hotel first so that we can leave our things and make some room at the van. Yelly kept on asking about the zoo, she keeps saying why weren’t we at a zoo?? when are we going to the zoo?? i thought we are going to a zoo?? And so I had to explain to her for several times that we are just dropping off our things and we are already on are way to the zoo! :D

I have to say that my expectations are really really high. I’ve been waiting all of my life to get to Subic. It’s as if I was the only person who hasn’t been to Subic nor Boracay yet! [Yes, up to this point in time I haven't been to Boracay yet. Well, I can't swim anyway! :P ] And finally, I’m gonna see Subic!! Read the rest of this entry »

Mamonluk’s Special Mami and Siopao, First in the Philippines!

mamonluk restaurant quiapo special mami siopao (4)

I hardly see my sister nowadays. She now stays with my grandma and rarely goes home because of school. Last Wednesday, my sister and I met. :) I went to her school to give her something she needs for their presentation in class. It’s great that she was also feeling generous that day and so she treated her broke sister to dinner.

Eversince R. Ma Mon Luk Restaurant was featured in Rated K a couple of months ago, we wanted to try their Special Mami and Special Siopao. Sure I’ve been hearing Mamonluk before but I’ve no idea what Mamonluk was until I saw that episode.

It turns out that Ma Mon Luk was the person who brought Mami and Siopao to the Philippines from mainland China. Hardworking Ma Mon Luk came to the Philippines in search for greener pastures and sold siopao and mami to college students. Before, mami was called “gupit” because Ma Mon Luk would have to cut chicken strips into the miki noodles and soup when someone buys from him. Mami came from Ma and Mi. Ma was taken from Ma Mon Luk and Mi means “his recipe”. So Mami actually means Ma Mon Luk’s recipe! ;)
