Cold Rock + Chewy Junior: Finding Comfort in Food
I believe most of us run to food for comfort whenever we feel depressed. Indulging one’s self in a huge tub of ice cream during times like this is a very typical scene in movies and TV series. I personally eat a lot whenever I flunk exams in school, so yeah, I am so fat na. College stress seems to the top reason why people my age gain so much unwanted weight. Food seems to be our number one buddy whenever the feeling of misery is looming ’round the corner. Science explains that such behavior might be caused by Serotonin and Dopamine, chemicals released in the brain with the help our bestfriend — sugar. Serotonin, in fact, is referred to as the “happiness hormone” while Dopamine’s function plays an important part in different things in the brain including mood. So now you know?
Last December, I was able to find new friends during our EK trip – Team Kaladkarin (TK). Apparently, one of us became depressed last week and asked the group for depression coping techniques. Of course almost everyone suggested eating your way out of depression and that’s where this uber fun spontaneous trip started. The group met up the following day for ice cream – Bryan, Will, Dam, Dani, Robbie, Lou and I.

Happy Mooncake Festival!
Happy Moon Cake Festival!! My school has a huge Chinese community, so I know.
Last week, a school organization even had a party to celebrate it. I was invited to come by some of my classmates, but unfortunately I was on my way to my grandma’s house that night. We’ll be off to Subic the following day. My grandma just turned 90 yesterday.
So the entire family from my mother’s side spent the weekend in Subic to celebrate this special occasion. My uncle and my cousins came over all the way from HongKong to celebrate!
And the Moon Cake you see now is their pasalubong.
Oh joy! I found the huge box of Moon Cake after dinner and said to myself that I would finally be able to taste Moon Cake. There were 10 Moon Cakes in mini boxes inside the huge box and there were two kinds. One is in a blue box and the other one is in a red box. I honestly don’t know what their difference are casue I was only able to eat one. Mom cautioned that Moon Cake is quite heavy and I have realized that I’ve just finished dinner, so I had to wait for the following day to get a taste of Moon Cake.
I managed to get one before we left for Subic. I grabbed a Moon Cake in a red box. I only had a quick breakfast and I was still hungry. Somewhere between the trip, I felt the need to eat cause I am used to eating heavy breakfast. The Pringles my sister and I ate earlier during the trip didn’t help much. And then I remembered my Moon Cake! Read the rest of this entry »
Happy 25th Birthday Blizzard!
Going home from a paper consultation for a major subject last 2 weeks, simply the sight of Dairy Queen at Ali Mall, Cubao led me to buying Blizzard. I soooo love Blizzard, now who doesn’t?
I used to always get Mudpie, but the Cheesecake Blizzard Treats got my attention! Those sure look yummy, mmm mmm
And then I forgot I was trying to save money!! huhuhu
When you are craving for ice cream and craving for cheesecake at the same time, this is the perfect solution! I went for Strawberry Cheesecake because there’s real strawberry pieces in the ice cream unlike chocolate which is simply chocolate ice cream. I want more other than ice cream in my cup
Do you get what I am trying to say? Hey DQ! What about coming up with Blueberry Cheesecake Blizzard?

Mamonluk’s Special Mami and Siopao, First in the Philippines!
I hardly see my sister nowadays. She now stays with my grandma and rarely goes home because of school. Last Wednesday, my sister and I met.
I went to her school to give her something she needs for their presentation in class. It’s great that she was also feeling generous that day and so she treated her broke sister to dinner.
Eversince R. Ma Mon Luk Restaurant was featured in Rated K a couple of months ago, we wanted to try their Special Mami and Special Siopao. Sure I’ve been hearing Mamonluk before but I’ve no idea what Mamonluk was until I saw that episode.
It turns out that Ma Mon Luk was the person who brought Mami and Siopao to the Philippines from mainland China. Hardworking Ma Mon Luk came to the Philippines in search for greener pastures and sold siopao and mami to college students. Before, mami was called “gupit” because Ma Mon Luk would have to cut chicken strips into the miki noodles and soup when someone buys from him. Mami came from Ma and Mi. Ma was taken from Ma Mon Luk and Mi means “his recipe”. So Mami actually means Ma Mon Luk’s recipe!
Uber Yummy Grilled Chicken at The Old Spaghetti House
Last July 26, I had adventures walking from Taft Ave. till Robinson’s Otis in Paco, Manila. I was looking for Acer Service Center and the people from TCA said “konting lakad nalang mula sa Taft makikita mo na yun”. And so I thought it was just like 3-5 buildings away from Taft Ave. So much for trusting them, I ended up walking for what seemed like a eternity with a laptop killing my shoulder.
I found it infront of Robinson’s Otis and then I went there after.
Robinson’s Otis made me so happy!
I am so delighted to have found a copy of Chronicles of Narnia: Book 2 ,which is the ever popular The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe, at National Book Store in Robinson’s Otis. Every bookstore I have checked does not have a copy of that book. So I was really happy cause I have already completed the 7 books.
Yey! I’m trying to revive my love for reading now
The first thing I saw after I came out of National Book Store was The Old Spaghetti House. It’s as if angels came out and sang all together when I saw it. “Aaaah!”, they sang in a glorious voice. You may think that I am so OA, but I am not. HAHA. All my life (now this is OA), I’ve been longing to dine in this restaurant. Mom says that their spaghetti is the best! And maybe by now you have figured out already that I am such a pasta freak. Hehehe. But yeah, because of few branches that are located on places we really don’t go to, I ‘d just have to wait and drool. It’s really awesome that it was a Monday, and my allowance was just been given to me. So yeah…The Old Spaghetti House here I come!! Yey!
(It would be really sad and frustrating if I had no money with me at that time
)
I stared at the menu for so long. I couldn’t make up my mind. What to eat? What to eat? Oh, What to eat?? Read the rest of this entry »
