Mamonluk’s Special Mami and Siopao, First in the Philippines!
I hardly see my sister nowadays. She now stays with my grandma and rarely goes home because of school. Last Wednesday, my sister and I met.
I went to her school to give her something she needs for their presentation in class. It’s great that she was also feeling generous that day and so she treated her broke sister to dinner.
Eversince R. Ma Mon Luk Restaurant was featured in Rated K a couple of months ago, we wanted to try their Special Mami and Special Siopao. Sure I’ve been hearing Mamonluk before but I’ve no idea what Mamonluk was until I saw that episode.
It turns out that Ma Mon Luk was the person who brought Mami and Siopao to the Philippines from mainland China. Hardworking Ma Mon Luk came to the Philippines in search for greener pastures and sold siopao and mami to college students. Before, mami was called “gupit” because Ma Mon Luk would have to cut chicken strips into the miki noodles and soup when someone buys from him. Mami came from Ma and Mi. Ma was taken from Ma Mon Luk and Mi means “his recipe”. So Mami actually means Ma Mon Luk’s recipe!
This is R. Ma Mon Luk Restaurant in Quezon Blvd. Quiapo, Manila. It looks like nothing has changed in the restaurant since it was established. My sister found this in Quiapo early this school year at the time she doesn’t know yet where Recto station is. The jeepney driver forget to drop her off so she had to walk back and find the LRT station. But before she found the LRT station, she found Ma Mon Luk!
She was really excited to tell me that she has found Ma Mon Luk, she knows I want to eat here and she LOVES siopao!!
My sister and I were really shocked when we checked out the menu for the price. It’s pretty expensive compared to what we were kinda expecting. Nevertheless, we ordered special mami and special siopao!! From what was served in front of me, let me define what “special” means in Ma Mon Luk Restaurant – HUGE!!
Behold! For 150 pesos, I was able to have a HUGE bowl of mami and a HUGE siopao. *nyom nyom nyom* I love the chicken strips in the mami, it’s so juicy and tasty – malasang-malasa yung manok, swear! nyom!!
But I love the siopao better than the mami! If only Ma Mon Luk was just across my school, I would have siopao for lunch everyday
Seriously! The siopao sauce isn’t as thick as the usual siopao sauce, but it sure tastes good to me. And oh, the salted egg in the siopao gives it a lot of plus points
I want Ma Mon Luk’s siopao now!! huhuhu

OMG LOOK AT THAT SIOPAO!
Where exactly in Quezon Blvd is this? What landmarks? :3 I have to go theeerrree.
)
quite of a walking distance from the LRT stations
from UST, we just kept on looking at the right side till we spot it
i’m sure pag nagtanung ka sa quiapo vendors alam nila yun!
The restaurant is between the Quiapo Church and Raon St.
wow. I wanna try Ma Mon Luk coz I hard it’s really good. I can’t remember if I’ve tried it when I was a kid & I just can’t remember it.. LOL.
i’ll always be in love with their siopao which i always order whenever i visit their brach along quezon ave.
hi! good day!
I’ve been wanting to go to R.Ma Mon Luk in Quiapo but I can’t exactly locate it. I’ve been to MAsuki ( I just accidentally saw it when I was looking for something else)and they serve good treats there. Could you please tell me the landmarks near Ma Mon Luk Quiapo? I’ll be coming from Lrt Recto station. Thanks much!
wala kasing masyadong landmarks, just keep your eyes open and i mean REALLY open haha. di din kasi ako masyadong familiar kasi sa mga famous stores sa quiapo. same side siya ng LRT Recto, so don’t cross the street. walk towards the same direction the jeepneys are going to on that side, so the stores are at your right side. mga 5-10mins walk siguro yun. tapos magtanong-tanong ka nalang
Ma Mom Luk restaurant in Quiapo is located between the Quiapo Church and Raon St. (if that is still the name)
